I started out thinking i wanted to make a painting that was muted in color . I had to stare at it for a long time and about two months of having it in my room i changed my idea completely and added some bold colors.

Coming to the End

Woohoo!! It has been a long year for art. As i was doing my concenctration pieces I thought that they might all look really random together but i was happily surprized that at the Art show i thought they looked quite dashing. I have had a lot of fun this year exploring many ideas in this class.

Here is what i have been working on all year..

my weekend

Last wednesday i went to san francisco to visit Elizabeth Brown, visit USF and UCSC. On Friday my mom and i went to Santa Cruz to visit the school and the art department was amazing!! It was on top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and overlooking the ocean. Art is the second most common major at the school so that made me feel really good and the art studio buildings were really cool. They had slanted tops made out of glass so natural light could get in, and there was some really cool work you could see from the windows. Secondly i went to moma in San Francisco and saw some really amazing paintings, a really cool rothko, magrite and some excellent matisse pieces. The exhibition that was there was a photographer called freelander whose pieces were interesting too.

hmmm

So i have been brainstorming non-stop and it isnt helping that much. I've figured out what i am going to do for one of my pieces so thats good, at least i have a start. I have four small canvas's and i think i'm going to do for images of the same thing but in different styles or colors. As of now i think i'm going to do a picture of the Greek goddess Aphrodite/Roman goddess Venus.

Thoughts

Lately i have been really inspired to paint, which is almost always a good thing but all of my ideas have had nothing to do with my concentration which sucks. I have been thinking of my pieces and i think that my next two i should make small so they can go in the small portion of my concentration but at the same time i dont really like to work small.. I'm really uninspired at this point and i'm trying really hard to think of ideas but i have yet to do so. I'm thinking since i always like making stamps i might buy some more safety cut and do that, and then think of some kind of interesting background to do with it. Maybe i'll mix realism and pop art like i did on my mary piece.

Encaustics

I decided to continue working on my encaustic pieces i started before the break. I'm going to use both of them in my concentration but i'm not sure if i like them, but i've been working on them a lot so i'm using them.

Life Drawing

Matt and I were gone for the life drawing session so we went to OCAC this last saturday. I have never had the opportunity to draw a nude person before and I really liked it, and the class was really small and full of old people who were extremely freindly.

more ideas

So everyone has probably noticed but lately i have been really into carving stamps, for some reason i get a lot of satisfaction out of it and i think they look really cool. Most of my paintings so far have been pretty big and i know we have to send in some that are in a certain size category so i think for the next couple i am going to work small. I'm thinking that i'll finish and paint my jesus with a twist, and i think im going to do a small very detailed ganesha stamp.

Updated background

So i added some charcoal and some marker on top of the wood to add some more contrast. I have been having a lot of fun with this piece, i have a table in my downstairs where i have layed this over it for the last couple weeks like a table top, and i keep paint, charcoal and pastel around it and so when i pass by it i just add a little something. It feels like a can't mess it up which is nice and not stressful at all. I'm thinking of adding this symbol on top of it, or maybe even a couple of the symbols scattered around that are from an african religion.

Ideas

The last month or so i haven't been very inspired and thrilled to work on my concentration but in the last couple of days i thought of some new ideas that i am getting excited about.
1. i have carved a stamp of Mary and am planning on using it
2. i have been working on a background (its on my blogspot-on wood-pink,purple and green) which is really big and i think i am going to layer onto it an african religious symbol that i really like
3. i am going to do a jesus being crucified with a twist

Another background

I'm still deciding what to add on top of this, but before i do that i know i am going to layer more paint on top and rub some charcoal into it. I'm also still unsure if this will be part of my concentration or not.
